Feeding Futures: Helping Students Stay in School and Succeed
The Abbotsford School District receives funding from Feeding Futures, a province-wide program ensuring that every student has access to nutritious food during the school day. When children are nourished, they are more likely to attend school regularly, focus in class, and thrive in their learning.
Making an Impact in Abbotsford
During the 2024–2025 school year, Feeding Futures and its community partners made a measurable difference for local families:
-
187,000 breakfasts and 191,000 lunches were served to students — an increase of 65,000 meals from the previous year.
-
507 winter hampers were distributed to families during the holiday season.
To start off this school year in September, 750 back to school backpacks and hampers were provided to students, equipping them for a strong start to the year.
Why It Matters
Food security has a direct connection to education. Hungry students are more likely to miss school, struggle with concentration, or face behavioural challenges. By removing those barriers, Feeding Futures helps children:
-
Attend school more consistently
-
Stay focused and engaged in the classroom
-
Build the foundation for long-term success
Looking Ahead
The program continues to grow with the goal of reaching even more students and ensuring that families know this support is available. To meet the demand, Feeding Futures is also expanding its workforce, making sure schools and families receive the resources they need when they need them.
By broadening its reach and strengthening its capacity, Feeding Futures is helping to create a stronger, healthier learning environment for every child in Abbotsford.
